Borrowers are eligible if they are participating in a program that would qualify them for partial repayment of their loans by the Department of Defense.

Military Service Deferment

You can postpone federal student loan repayment during certain periods of active duty and immediately following active duty. You may also be eligible for a deferment if you’ve served on active duty on or after October 1, 2007, and were enrolled at least half time at an eligible school at the time of, or within six months prior to, being called to active duty.

Public Service Deferment

Borrowers who are on active duty in the armed forces, full-time officers in the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service, on active duty in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and others may be eligible for a public service deferment.

Repayment Plan

You may request a change to your loan's repayment plan 30-45 days before entering repayment as well as during the repayment period.
